I admit, I’m not very good at doing only one thing at a time. So, I came up with the idea to “polish my shoes” while looking for something to do while watching t.v. with my little ones. It turned out to be so much fun and very fetching for the Spring wardrobe. Here’s a look at what I did…
Then, using three different nail polish colors that I had on hand, I painted the lattice pattern near the toe of the shoes. I gave each section 2-3 coats. I was pleasantly surprised that it didn’t take too long for the paint to dry onto the material.
I decided that I would go all out with color, so I added this iridescent purple to the vertical lines that were left, being careful not to cover the very edge of the pleather, since I wanted to maintain a subtle outline of the original material and color throughout.
Then…freehand with a fine tip Sharpie. I love coloring, don’t you?
I used my white french tip nail polish to add the white stripes. For this step, a thin brush proved helpful but I just used the regular bottle brushes for everything else.
Finally, I did two coats of the main color, Deviantly Daring, on the sides of the shoe.
…and finished that off with a coating of clear acrylic gloss sealer.
And here are the cheerful results!
My twin girls are gaga over this idea, now that they saw me doing it, so I will post their pint-sized DIY pics when they are all done with theirs. My son’s into the action too (never one to pass up the chance to add more dragons to something), so it’s fun for the whole family.
Hope this inspires you have a little fun with nail polish too. 🙂
